Domain Registration &
Hosting
Before you
can setup a website, you will need to register a domain name of
your choice and obtain a suitable hosting package. Thre are
many domain name registrars out there, the main ones
being namecheap.com
and godaddy.com
. You can use
either
one.
Having registered your
domain name, you will then need to purchase a hosting
package. I highly recommend
using hostgator.com
. It has a very
user-friendly interface, it's very reliable, affordable
and most importantly, it provides first-class customer
service. The 24/7 chat support is top-notch and
all their customer-service officers are technically
competent in solving all your hosting problems. I have
personally used them for several years now and I have
never encountered an instance when their
chat-support becomes
unavailable. They have always been there for
me.
There are
hosting companies that also provide domain name
registration. However, it is prudent and always better to
use separate entities for the two functions. This is to
be on the safe side because if the hosting company goes
bust, it would be easy to purchase another hosting
package and point your domains to the new hosting servers
and your website will be up and running again in a matter
of days. But if you have them both at the same
place, you would find difficulty in salvaging your
domains and your business can be devastatingly
affected.
I have made a
video that goes through the processes of registering a
domain name with godaddy.com and purchasing a hosting
package with hostgator.com. It also covers configuring
your DNS servers at godaddy.com pointing it to your
hosting servers at hostgator. That is all that is needed
to have your website ready for setting
up.
